Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day

Oh my gosh! If you didn't hear this yesterday, November 15,  was "Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day."

MOST everything in a refrigerator was once a fresh, healthy food (or not), ready for your consumption. It may have been a tasty leftover, intended for later enjoyment. Unfortunately, over the course of weeks or more, things got pushed to the back of the refrigerator and slowly transformed into something impossible to identify.

What's that in the back of  YOUR refrigerator!? Do you really want to know? Don't open it...... the odor may overwhelm you!!! Hold your breath, scrunch your nose if you must, and throw it straight in the trash.

Happy Cleaning!!

P.S. What's the most unusual thing you have in your refrigerator RIGHT NOW? Mine was a wrapped used paint brush! Don't ask.............

Clutter 101: Report Card

You may or may not remember my previous posts about my summer goal of decluttering. Well, I'll give myself an A- on the old grading scale. Not quite as good as this over achiever would like but certainly not anything to pass off as failure or lack of effort on my part.

Now as summer comes to a close and my work schedule picks up, I go back to work smiling and feeling pretty good about a few drawers, cabinets, nooks, and crannies. I wish to leave you with just three little tips I have found beneficial not just this summer but for many years in maintaining my home….

1. It’s easier to keep up than catch up!

2. Give everything a “home.”

3. Make a run through the house before you go to bed each night.

Candids, Kudos, and Clutter

The Sweetness of Little Ones and Animals!

And now....This is a first for me. Thank you, Scrappy Quilter, for sending this award my way. It's great getting to know new friends.

And lastly..........the summer goal of organizing and de-cluttering prevails. Tackled a few more drawers today. YEA!!!!

 Clutter Buster 101

My summer goal of organizing and de-cluttering prevails. Yesterday was profitable. The kitchen was the target! I cleaned out the catch-all drawer. You know the kind that just catches anything and everything. It had at least two dozen pens, a pacifier not used in 3 years, gum, receipts, loose paper clips, tape, needle and thread, photos, a silver bell souvenir from a wedding, and……..

Please, please tell me you have one of these drawers, too!

Then I went through several cabinets. Glass containers and bowls got matched with lids—imagine that! All the cool whip and Glad storage thingees either got paired with a lid or went to the trash. (This issue drives me nuts when you can’t find the lid to the silly thing.)

One special corner of the cabinet area, also got cleaned and foo-fooed up a little. I previously had a cute little television there. I couldn't watch it anymore; I didn't want a HD converter box sitting there. So basically, it was taking up space. (I moved it to a storage closet to keep it though; it’s great when traveling because you can use it in the car.) The best part was I didn't even need to make new purchases to update the corner. I had a picture frame someone had given me, and then brought in a stored little lamp. Added a candle and WAALAA!

As I was cleaning throughout the day, I took advantage also of cooking lunch for myself, preparing dinner for Rick, and canning five more pints of salsa. Whew! And then finally late yesterday afternoon, the sign went back up…….

(Tomorrow I think I'll tackle a closet!)

Clutter Buster

When school was out, I developed a plan. Each week I would tackle just a few things to help get my house more organized and a little less cluttered. I figured if I did this, within a couple of months, I could really see and appreciate the results.

First on the list was my makeup drawer in the bathroom.  I simply culled through all the tubes, bottles, pens, etc. trashing what was empty, not used, or antiquated.

WAALAA! Believe me, it was just the results I was going for. I can actually find what I need!

I will continue to tackle a drawer, a cabinet, a closet, or something each week. Little by little, this approach will yield great results. At the end of each week, I know I will have a wonderful feeling of satisfaction to see spaces totally organized and…..then, of course, I'm going to remember the key is to do things daily to keep it that way.

Hint: The silverware holder was perfect for the organization of all the “stuff.” I forgot to take a “before” shot. But here’s the “after.”
