Red, White, and Blue Giveaway

By the time you have read this,  I will have left on a trip that will be taking us to some historical sites up in the New England area. It's been interesting reading up on names, dates, locations, and historical events that led up to our independence as a nation. Of course, I'll be taking plenty of photos. I hope to share a few with you along the way.

Anyway, as I was meandering through a store recently, this cute red, white, and blue stuff just screamed out at me and jumped in my basket. So...... I am sending it to one of you.

Included: paper plates, napkins, a cute little kitchen towel, two spools of ribbon, and even a 12 ft. flag banner. This should be just enough to kick start your own July 4th party! Yes, it's early, but it will be here before we know it.

Just leave a comment here and tell me something you would like to serve on the cute plates. The winner will be announced June 9!

A Chuckle and Some Chimes.....

A passenger in a taxi leaned over to ask the driver a question and gently tapped him on the shoulder to get his attention.

The driver screamed, lost control of the cab, nearly hit a bus, drove up over the curb and stopped just inches from a large plate glass window.

For a few moments everything was silent in the cab. Then, the still shaking driver said, 'Are you OK? I'm so sorry, but you scared the daylights out of me.'

The badly shaken passenger apologized to the driver and said he didn't realize that a mere tap on the shoulder would startle the driver so badly. The driver replied, 'No, no, I'm the one who is sorry, it’s entirely my fault. Today is my very first day driving a cab…..

I've been driving a hearse for the past 25 years.”

Thanks to Keelie and Justin I'm hearing and seeing something very pretty from the back door.

Going Once, Twice.... Sold!

I got this at an auction we had at church on Sunday to raise money for our construction mission trip coming up in July. I was tickled I got the bid. I think I beat out Marilyn.

Inside the basket was:   Archer Farms French Vanilla coffee, two boxes of Coffee-Mate (one regular and one vanilla), fruit tea samplers, two great mugs, a tea towel, and some napkins.

Here's another cutie, too.

Have a terrific Tuesday!

Drummer Dude and Laundry Lovin'

Jonah spent the night a couple of nights ago. After having breakfast the next morning, he did some of his  "computer" stuff. Then he decided he needed "drum" time.  So, of course, we pulled the drums and his DVD out.

I would personally love it if some day he really wanted to learn to play them. Our friend, Marlon, is a great drummer who lives right down the road! Oh yeah, the DVD? Jonah always plays with the Eagles!

The laundry room got a little lovin' this weekend. It didn't take long--just an arrangement and a new frame. Now all I need is a new photo of my family.

The Best Car Wash

When Rick was cleaning on the cars, Jonah wanted to help. So Rick gave him some spray, and a shop towel; then he told him to "get after it." He certainly enjoyed himself!

Here's a quilt update. Check out those names...

Have a great Friday!

Going With The Flow

The treat bags I shared with you had homemade goodies in them~~~pralines, cookies, and brownies!

Here is the recipe for the pralines.

The following is taken from Victoriously Frazzled. I believe if we can all take it to heart, the frazzle meter will go WAY down.

"I'm getting better at 'allowing' God to order the events of my day. That's not to say I don't plan. It's just when things don't go according to my plan, it's more okay than it used to be. God is teaching me that He wants to be in charge of all the ins and outs of my day. When the unexpected happens, He's teaching me to relax in Him and go with the flow."

Have a great Thursday, and remember......go with the flow.

Who's Frazzled?

Tomorrow night we complete our study Victoriously Frazzled. It is amazing how twelve to fourteen ladies were brought together for a purpose that only God could design!

We have studied, eaten, prayed, shared, and laughed---all the things we women do so well when we get together.

I put these little treat bags together to give them tomorrow night as we celebrate being......Victorious Frazzled Females!

Can you guess what I put in them?

Sharing Sunday....

After our worship service this morning, we had our luncheon. Potlucks are the best! My chocolate cake was all gone. Love it when you get to bring home an empty dish.

This afternoon I brought out the quilt squares ("My Twenty-Four Piece Puzzle") I shared with you a couple of months ago. I started on sashes and borders. I'm hoping to get more done this week.

Then a walk outside to take in the colors...

Enjoy your evening!

Chocolate, Anyone?

We have a potluck luncheon tomorrow after church. I decided to make an old family favorite from many years ago. It is called a "Scotch Cake" which is just our great old fashioned chocolate cake. Can't count the number of times I've made this one. You may have made it, too, but perhaps called it something else.

A Cliff Hanger

When God leads you to the edge of the cliff, trust Him fully and let go. Only one of two things will happen. Either He will catch you when you fall, or He will teach you how to fly! God can and will shift things around for us today if it is His will. We have to ask though.

Revelation 3: 8

I know thy works; behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it; for thou has a little strength, and has kept my word, and has not denied my name.

Outdoor Wednesday

I grabbed these shots on our recent trip to Big Bend. We were at the Judge Roy Bean Visitor center down that way.  It was a beautiful day to be out just walking around.

Snowing "Hail"

We had never seen hail quite like we did yesterday during our cool afternoon here. It was so thick it looked more like snow falling across the skies except with sound effects! IT WAS SO LOUD!

No damage though. Today, it's going to be 88 degrees.
Crazy Texas Weather!

My Two Marvelous Moms!

This is a repeat post about my two special moms.....

Our mom (who became "Nannie" in 1981 when Justin was born) was someone very special. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, sister, friend, and the list could go on and on.
Of course, there are so many things to say. Mother was determined that Marilyn and I would grow up with certain skills and abilities. She provided us the opportunities to learn to sew, crochet, cook, keep house, and anything else she thought beneficial. She paid for piano lessons for several years—this did not stick for sure! I also remember coming home from school one day and being told to sit down at the kitchen table. She said, “Today, girls, we are going to learn about table settings and manners.” The table was set with her fine china, silver, etc. We proceeded to get our first lesson in proper table etiquette that afternoon.
Probably most importantly, she was determined we would be women of character.  We learned about honesty, responsibility, trust, joy and peace. She taught us by example how to serve the Lord. We weren’t dropped off at church; we went together. We went on Wednesdays, Sunday mornings, and Sunday evenings. Once a year or so, we got to skip a Sunday night to watch “The Wizard of Oz.” Woohoo!!!
Mother taught us to love people. We visited relatives and friends all the time. We went with her to the hospitals and nursing home. We genuinely loved to go and learned about ministry through her examples.
I thank God for blessing me with a lifetime of her tenderhearted love. I thank God for the care she showed me through the years. I thank him for the closeness we enjoyed in times of laughter, tears, joy, health and pain. The Lord truly blessed me through Mother.

Edna was also a devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend. For me, she was the epitome of what a mother-in-law should be. I never had to try to even remotely understand all the mother-in-law jokes that one hears. I looked upon her as my "other mother," and she loved me as a daughter. She always exemplified those things that she knew God wanted all of us to be as a person, a wife, and a mother. She taught all of us to invest our main efforts in spending time with our families and loving God. She led by example to love and trust him. She believed you should always stand up for what you knew to be right in His sight.
Edna became affectionally known as “Ganna” when Justin, the first grandchild, was born. Her Ganna role expanded as Jenna, Matt, and Ashton were born. Then, although not by blood, she became "Ganna" to Greg and Chad as well. She never missed anything one of her grandchildren was involved in. She made almost as many basketball/baseball games, track meets, regional and state meets, choir programs, soccer games, and banquets as we the parents did. She was one of their biggest fans.

I am blessed and most grateful to have been loved by my two awesome mothers. I miss both of them dearly, but treasure the many memories. Thank you, God!

He Takes the Cake!

Jonah and I got in the kitchen yesterday after we had played outside for awhile. He said we NEEDED to make cupcakes. Well, OF COURSE WE NEEDED TO!

He had so much fun doing the decorating. In his words..."This is so awesome."

He loved the almond we added to some of the frosting.

"Is it time, Nanna?"

Sure thing!

Recognizing Nurses

Today is National Nurse's Day.  This day brings awareness to the importance of nurses in the care, comfort, and well being of all of us.

Our daughter, Jenna, is an ICU nurse in Dallas. Next month she will mark her three-year anniversary.

So to Jenna...... I am proud of you. You are making a difference as you care for your patients. You are also making a difference for the family members who always need a smile, reassurance, and sometimes comfort in the midst of hard times. Keep up the great work you are doing as you serve in this ministry you were called to do. Love you!

Worry-Wart Wall

Here is the wall that's been driving me nuts. It's been blank for quite awhile! Do not ask me why. Not sure....

I finally decided something HAD to go up. Shopped the house (didn't want to buy anything) and here's what I've come up with so far. The wall still needs some help on the sides. It's a pretty long one even though you can't tell it because I cut some of the width out of the pics.

It's a start, right?

Marvelous Workmanship

Last night almost at dusk I happened to peek out the back. We had just had one of those little spring rains. The sky was absolutely beautiful with this awesome coloring throughout. Looking out across the field was a treat, too, with the sky's backdrop and that gentle breeze swishing through the wildflowers. A little praisin' going on needless to say!
