School and Southernisms

Monday is the big day here. Our children and educators start their next instructional year.

This year is special. Jonah starts Pre-K. He is excited and definitely ready academically. "Meet The Teacher" was last night. Dad happily reported all went well!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A whistling woman and a crowing hen never comes to a very good end. (be who you are)
Ain't that the berries! (that is great!)
As easy as sliding off a greasy log backward. (very easy)
Barking up the wrong tree. (you are wrong)
Be like the old lady who fell out of the wagon. (you aren't involved, so stay out of it)
Have a great Friday!
  1. MORNING DIANA,
    LOOKS LIKE YOU HAVE BEEN HAVING LOTS OF FUN WITH FAMILY!! GOOD FOR YOU!!
    WOW, A KINDERGARTENER ALREADY. MY SISTER-IN-LAW IS A KINDERGARTEN TEACHER FOR 30 YEARS NOW. KINDERGARTEN IS A LOT MORE STRESSFUL THAN IT USED TO BE THAT IS FOR SURE. HOPE HE REALLY LIKES IT AND ADJUSTS WELL.
    LIKED YOUR LIST OF SOUTHERISM'S - I HAVE ONLY HEARD 2 OF THEM, BARKING UP THE WRONG TREE AND
    AS EASY AS SLIDING OFF THE LOG BACKWARDS.
    FUNNY AREN'T THEY!!
    A FELLA HUBBY KNEW, USED TO SAY HIS GRANDMOTHERS BISCUITS WERE SO GOOD THAT IS TONGUE ALMOST SLAPPED HIS BRAINS WHILE HE WAS EATING THEM.
    HAD NEVER HEARD THAT ONE BEFORE!!
    HOPE YOU ARE DOING WELL HON,
    HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND,
    BLESSINGS, NELLIE
  4. Good morning Diana! Thanks for stopping by! I'm doing some visitin' this morning myself. Ah, time for school. Your little Jonah is excited about school I'm sure - he's such a cutie and I'll bet he's a ball of energy! I don't have any little ones in school anymore (except one still in college) and we were all sitting around talking about how much fun it was to go get all of our new school supplies, backpacks, lunchboxes, and new clothes! then we'd have to take everything out of the packages, put names on every single item and place everything in our backpacks. Go meet the Teacher night was fun and exciting, too! Maybe I'll get to do some more of that when I have grands!
    I've heard most of your 'southernisms' - I'll add one - no, two ---
    My dad, when asked "how're you doin'?" would say,
    "I'm fine as frog's hair split 4 ways!" Well, that's purty fine!
    My Nanny would say, when eating a banana (her favorite food), "if the Good Lord made anything that tasted any better, then He kept it for Himself!" I always loved both of these!!!
    Love the old adages..My father's best was...Better an old man's darling than a young man's slave. (he was 17 years older than my mother)-lol And...It's a great life if you don't weaken. Amen!
    Have a wonderful day-thanks for the smile! Diana
