Oh yes, you must try this!

The ladies in our family love to eat at The Durning House, an area restaurant and B/B. Their lunches are awesome, and the atmosphere is such a "girly" thing. I wanted to share a recipe with you that was served on one of our last visits. I'm not sure I had eaten it before. But it's a "keeper." It's called "Shirley's Chicken Broccoli."

1 med. onion, chopped
2 c. sliced mushrooms
1 can cream of chicken soup
8 oz. grated sharp cheese
2 t. soy sauce
1/2 t. pepper
2 (10 oz) pkg, chopped frozen broccoli, cooked and drained
1/2 c. butter
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 (5 oz) can evaporated mild
1/4 t.  Tabasco sauce
1 t. salt
2 T. chopped pimentos
2 to 3 c. cooked chicken
1/2 c. slivered almonds

Saute onion and mushrooms in butter. Add remaining ingredients, except broccoli, chicken, and almonds. Simmer until cheese melts. In large baking dish, layer chicken, broccoli, and sauce. Top with almonds. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until bubbly.

I bet you agree now, don't you?

  1. I was priviledged to be the lady of the day that got to eat with you, and it was fantastic! I hope we can share in more of these "lady-like" lunches.
