Always...Patsy Cline

I love going to musicals and plays.  Last night Rick and I went to an area playhouse  to watch "Always...Patsy Cline." Whether we were born or not, we have all probably heard of her. I had seen the show several years ago so I knew what to expect. This is a great show so if you ever get the chance, put it on your calendar. Now, I will say if you don't like country music at ALL, then you probably won't enjoy it. The show is crammed packed full of all her hits. However, the storyline behind the play itself I would venture to say you could relate to. It's the TRUE story of Patsy's friendship with a Houston housewife named Louise Seger. Their friendship began one evening over a simple, strong cup of coffee. Through sharing life stories, cares, and concerns, they became forever pen pals until her death several years later.

There is one song that has jumped out at me both times I have seen this show. It is called "Come on In." Read through these lyrics carefully.

Written by V.F. Stewart
As released by Patsy Cline

Come on in and sit right down
And make yourself at home

If I had one wish, I wish I could
Go back to my old neighborhood
Where the good folks they all love you as their own
Then I'd go over to my neighbor's house
Knock on the door 'n they'd all sing out
Come on in and sit right down and make yourself at home.

I'd sing their praises long and loud
'Cause their all my folks and I'm mighty proud
Of the little old town back home where I was born
I wish that I could hear them say
In the good old-fashioned, friendly way
Come on in and sit right down and make yourself at home.

Well, they don't lock their doors at night
'Cause they all know they're a-doin' right
And the good Lord's bound to have them for his own
If I'd go back to hear them pray
In the little pine church, they all would say
Come on in and sit right down and make yourself at home.

When I was a child of only three
I said my prayers at my mother's knee
And I knew right then from God I'd never roam
When I get my summons on the Judgment Day
I hope I can hear my Savior say
Come on in and sit right down and make yourself at home.
Now, come on in and sit right down
And make yourself at home...

Now, wouldn't you agree that this song is full of good stuff? I'm curious. What jumped out at you in it? Please leave me a thought or two!

By the way, YouTube actually has her singing this. So... if you are in the mood for a little country music of years gone by, grab your boots, hat, and get ready for a little toe-tappin.' If you're not in the mood, I certainly understand. Skip "YouTube" but leave me a comment anyway about the lyrics.

Made Me Glad

I will bless the Lord forever
I will trust Him at all times

He has delivered me from all fear
He has set my feet upon a rock
I will not be moved
And I'll say of the Lord

You are my shield, my strength
My portion, deliverer
My shelter, strong tower
My very present help in time of need

Whom have I in heaven but You
There's none I desire beside You
You have made me glad
And I'll say of the Lord

You are my shield, my strength
My portion, deliverer
My shelter, strong tower
My very present help in time of need.

  1. Beautiful.

Thankful you guys had a great night out. A couple of years ago, my hubby and I were able to see a concert of all Patsy Cline music. It was great...

    Blessings, andrea

  2. Sunday blessings to you! Loved the lyrics-made me think of times of old or being in the south where this is a constant sentiment. Made me want to come right in for a visit. Also loved the worship song-one of my favorites. Do hope you are enjoying fall, here in northern Colorado it is very cold and so early in the season.
    Hugs to you this day,
    Noreen

What stood out --- the last few lines of her song...
*When I get my summons on the Judgment Day
I hope I can hear my Savior say
Come on in and sit right down and make yourself at home.*

Hope you have a wonderful day.

  4. My daddy loved Patsy Cline and had so many of her records. Growing up in a small town in GA we never locked our doors. In fact, we have a photo of the family posed by the front GLASS door with the key hanging on a nail beside the glass!!!

  7. Thanks for sharing the oldie but goodie! We had a couple come to our church once for a Valentines night to do a show and she impersonated Patsy Cline. They were great....and funny. :-)
Wouldn't it be great if we all had a neighborhood where people beckoned us to come on up to the porch and walk in and make ourselves at home? Nobody seems to have time anymore, and now it seems like we talk more about the economy, the government, war, and the other neighbors' woes and troubles than just about all the blessings we have amidst our trials... But it's nice to think about once upon a time, and unlocked doors, and being ourselves with our friends and neighbors. We could still attempt it!!
    Thanks for the fun read.
    God bless!

  10. What a woman. Such a sad loss so early in her life.
I love the part of praying with her mother at a young age and knowing she'd never roam.
Just reminds me to keep praying with and for my girls.
