I Think I Can (ned)!

Some of you may remember "The Tale of the Tomatoes" from this past April which described my efforts to save the little newly planted tomatoes despite weather conditions here. If you have not had the pleasure of reading this crazy story, please click and take the time to read it. This will perhaps allow you to understand the significance of today's post.

This is a picture of some homemade canned salsa. After securing a good recipe and calling Marilyn for her assistance and support, we successfully produced a product from this summer's great tomato crop. What satisfaction!

I love doing this kind of thing. It brings back so many memories of gardening and canning with Mother and Daddy. Marilyn and I always did this during the summer months as young girls and continued to do so after we married. We canned beans, pickles, tomatoes, beets, whatever.... I didn't even eat beets but that didn't matter. We were working, talking, laughing, and having fun together in the kitchen. Great days! Great memories!

  3. Okay, I just love that you popped over to say hi to me- I know that you are connected to Keely and I am just loving her blog and her sweet heart, and I wonder if you are connected to Sandy, who I know knows Keely! Y'all just seem like such a fun group!

I will visit again, and I will be harvesting many tomatos very soon and thinking of your post. I have no idea how to can, this is my first garden, and my husband planted something like ten huge tomato plants! EEK! I have no grandma/mother to show me how to can, so I am grateful for the internet... there will be much trial and error, but hopefully not so much error!
    Blessings,
    Sasha

  5. I'm such a dork- the first comment wouldn't publish, but after I wrote the second one, forgetting what I said in the first, I realized that it DID publish.

I promise I'm smart. Please take my word for it.

  6. Diana,
I love this post. (I enjoy every single one of your posts!) My grandma used to can everything, including beets. I had jars of beets and okra in my refrigerator for years after she went to heaven.
    That salsa looks delicious!
