Camping, Twins, a Broken Arm, and a Migraine

Rick and I took the RV over to Ray Roberts on Monday. We had such beautiful weather. We walked and spent a great deal of time outside.

Tuesday afternoon Justin called to tell us that we had twin calves born. That night they called to let us know that they had gone to an urgent care center; Glory had broken her left arm (scooter accident). We felt so sorry for her. She was able to smile some though when she got the news that it was a clean break that would require no surgery. Praise God!

On Wednesday we left the trailer at our campsite but came home for the day. Rick needed to check on the twins, and I had my ladies bible study that night at the house. We did, however, go back over to the park after it was over.

Thursday morning Keelie took Glory to get her cast.

At noon Rick and I decided since Justin was at the fire station on duty we had better go back to check on the calves. So glad we did. The momma cow had basically left one of the twins, and it was in bad shape. Marilyn and Rickie came to help us move the cow and both calves down to the pen where we could try to save it. So....we bought a bottle and milk to attempt bottle feedings. We have had cows for all our married life but this was a first for us.

Yesterday I woke up at 1:30 a.m. with a migraine. Throughout the early morning I took tylenol and a pain pill. After being very nauseous (throwing up!) all morning,  I went to the doctor around 11:00. After two injections and some meds, I FINALLY got some relief about 3:30 p.m.

Justin, Keelie and the kiddos spent the night in the RV last night, and then they brought it home this morning. This afternoon we got the garden planted. And as I journal this, both little calves are alive.

What a week!

  1. That is so sad about the calf. I grew up on a dairy farm and I remember only once when a cow abandoned her calf and would have nothing to do with it. We were right there so caught it early on and my father bottle fed it from the get-go.

So sorry about little Glory...at least it was a clean break-that's important. It will heal and be stronger than ever. xo Diana

  2. Update: I'm afraid we will be having a double funeral for both calves in the morning!

  3. Diana, Congrat's on the twins calves! How fun. Your granddaughter's cast is very pretty. Many of our have had casts too. I think its wonderful that you are able to go back and forth between the trailer and home-how fun!
    Have a blessed week!
