Homemade Laundry Detergent

This was so much fun. (I am such a dork sometimes!) I had been wanting to do it ever since I read about it on the internet somewhere. I got my "stuff" at Wal-Mart and then found a bucket in the garage.

It was so easy. Just mixed all the powders together. Then I used my food processor to chop the soap; you can also just grate it. (It reminded me of feta cheese.) Then I mixed it all together. That's it!

I can't wait to use it. I think you use about two heaping tablespoons per load.

Now all I want is one of these......

By the way.....wash the food processor well!

  1. Hi Diana - I've been using homemade laundry soap since about January. I won't go back to regular. I love it! I tried the liquid first, but it was too messy and too much trouble for me. plus you have to have all these containers to store it cuz it makes so much. I like the powder. Have fun using yours! Go out and get something dirty!

  2. Yep - I make my own, too., and I love it. I also add the fabric softener crystals to mine so I don't have to add that separately- Blessings- xo Diana

  3. I am going to do that soon too. Every time I walk by those ingredients I think the same thing.

  4. My daughter has made some. Guess I should give it a try to if it is that easy!

  5. With the rising cost of nearly everything, this looks like a practical, cost-savings "recipe". Let us now if it does a good job getting out stains, etc.

  7. My youngest daughter makes her own laundry soap also. She loves that recipe and the homemade soap is so inexpensive to make.

  8. I make the liquid, but I think I'll try the dry mix next time. It's good stuff. I made 5 gallons for $2.22! It may be more expensive now. Also, my kids didn't want to use it because it smelled different, but you can add different scents. Liquid is definitely messier, too.
