Waiting is hard. But waiting can be a blessing.

Rick found out in January that he had a brain tumor. He was told from the beginning it was a rare one. Very rare. I think it has to do with the location of it. When he had his first MRI back then, they felt it was a benign one, but it was not going to be easy to just go in and get. So the waiting began. We were told to wait three months. Then we would get another MRI to see if it had changed in size or fashion.

People have prayed for him, supported him, and basically checked on him often. Thank God for special family and friends!

During this waiting time, Rick and I received confirmation that we should change doctors. We liked the former one; that was not the concern. We were directed to another doctor, however, who has at least seen more of these kind of tumors. They were more optimistic and, in general, offered more hope for dealing with the tumor.

Hope....it means everything.

Today he goes for his second MRI. We will take those results to our new doctor a week from Wednesday. Then (Praise God!) we will have a new game plan!

  1. Diana- MyHero had an aggressive brain tumor back several years ago. He had surgery and has done well with it. He did lose the use of some of the muscles on the right side of his face...so wears a sleep mask at night to close out the light. He grew a beard which helps hide the slackness in his lower face. His hearing in one ear was completely destroyed but his other ear is fine.

It is scary-really really scary. If he needs surgery go to the biggest research hospital/center you can find..one that has performed these procedures before. That is key. We ended up going to a hospital several hours away and it was a miracle how well they did the surgery.

Here is the odd thing about brain surgery-there is NO pain in the head because there are no nerve endings in the brain. We were expecting terrible pain that never happened.

Let me know how it goes and if you want more info I will be glad to tell you the little bit I know- xo Diana

  14. I'm so glad I came over for a 'check in' tonight. It's been quite awhile, and I am glad to be able to join you in praying for Rick, that the dr's. will be lead to the exact right path of wisdom in treating this, and that both of you will know God's peace as you journey through this chapter. I'm so glad you shared it.

  15. Dear Rick and Diana, I'm your newest follower and I'm sorry to hear about Rick's health situation. BUT, I want to tell you that I faced a similar situation. By the time I had the first MRI I was exhausted from so many months that had passed and so many tests, so when I got the results back from my MRI I thought it'd be a visit to the doctor and with the same outcome. We need to do more tests, etc. When they told me the result that they found non-specific lesions on my brain in the deep white matter (where it can't be operated on) my life was changed forever! Isaiah 43:19 is my favourite Scripture, through out my trials I believe God does always make a way! As your friend Jess said above, praying for God's miraculous touch. God bless you. -Kerrie (aka KC)
