Vintage Finds

I mentioned that this past weekend I went to the "Affair of the Heart" craft show. Although it was somewhat of an adventure getting to Oklahoma City from North Texas through a snow storm, the next day turned out to be beautiful there. The sun came out, and it was very pleasant walking from building to building.

Here are a couple of my favorite purchases. Both of these were from "vintage" booths.

A large basket loaded with "magic" quilting fabric for a whopping $9.00

Hot Iron Transfers just like Mother used -- $1.00 each

This was the one craft that she enjoyed doing. I can't tell you how many sets of kitchen towels she did for us. I'll show you some of them some day.

(By the way Chad, we missed you! It was weird being in OKC without seeing you there.)

  2. You got some great purchases!! I was thinking the other day about embroidered tea towels and wondered where I could get those transfers. I will have to check and see if I can find some too. I would love to make some hand towels. My Grandmother taught me how to embroider as a a child. I used to love to do the days of the week towels. You got some wonderful fabric. Love & blessings from NC!

  6. Love the fabric. I do some embroidery too. I've seen the little dutch girls done up in blue thread. Beautiful. My nephew is getting married in OKC in June, but I won't be able to go.

  14. Oh! I love those Aunt Martha transfers. Not too long ago I googled them and found their website, looking for a vintage transfer they used to have. They didn't have it anymore, but it was fun to look through their transfers again!

  15. Seeing those vintage finds brings back great memories of my Nana! She was a quilter and always had fabric pieces around. I even recently came across some of the dish towels she had embroidered. From the looks of them I wouldn't be a bit surprised if they were made from Aunt Martha's transfers.

  16. How wonderful! There's something so incredibly nostalgic about your "finds". My mother was a seamstress, embroiderer, cook/baker - - all things domestic. Oh that we'd have more of that in today's climate of quick-n-easy.

    Blessings,
    Kathleen

  18. My daughter, a friend and I went to Affair of the Heart too. It turned out to be the perfect weather for it! We went to the mall afterwards and that was a mistake. It took 30 minutes to find a parking space. Affair of the Heart is always fun.
