Har-Ber Village

Rick and I finally got to go to Har-Ber Village. It is apparently one of the largest antique museums in the U.S. The village, located in Grove, Oklahoma, was created by Harvey and Bernice Jones on lakeside property they bought for a summer home. It has 112 buildings that house thousands of collections of antiques and memorabilia. The village includes a schoolhouse, stagecoach station, courthouse, gallows, bank, dentist office, doctor office, homes, and so much more. Most structures were dismantled at their original sites in numerous surrounding states and brought to their property.

There were collections of almost everything you could think of. They had pottery, dishes, uniforms, hats, guns, maps, newspapers, furniture, knives, farm machinery...too much to list.

Rick's parents went there many times. They loved to go and just stroll through the place at least once a year. I definitely want to go back. Perhaps another month other than August would be good! (The heat thing was going on there, too.)

  3. We used to go there all the time but haven't been for awhile. I should put a visit on our schedule for later in the Fall. There used to be a large piece of metal near the entrance. I wonder if it's still there. Did you see it? It came from a train explosion near Noel, Missouri in the late '60s. I was a teenager at the time and my family was camping on the river the night of that explosion.

  13. I was so surprised to see this post about Har-Ber Village.

You know how we tend to neglect the tourist attractions near our own homes? Even though I'm from northeast Oklahoma, I've never been there. And I'd never even heard of it until my mother-in-law told us about it, and (not to my credit) that's probably why I never went.

It looks wonderful! Perhaps the next time we go up to visit family, we'll drive on over and see it.

Which reminds me of Log Cabin Village near the Fort Worth Zoo. Almost 30 years we've lived here and not been to it, either. Maybe soon.

    Thanks!
